Jinan, the capital of East China's Shandong province, has witnessed robust growth in ice and snow sports and tourism in recent years, driving the development of the city's ice and snow
economy.
Ice and snow sports have seen increasing popularity in China since the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, and the industry is becoming a new growth driver for Jinan, along with related industries. Jinan has embraced this trend by hosting ice and snow events while expanding its winter sports market.
From 2023 to 2024, the city experienced a surge in the number of people engaging in ice and snow sports, enhanced service capabilities, and a strengthened industrial chain, vitalizing its ice and snow economy.
Enhanced facilities and support services are among the key factors driving the city's growth in winter sports and the ice and snow economy.
Jinan is currently home to 11 ski venues, including the well-known ski resorts Jinxiangshan, Jinshawan, and Xueye. These venues offer not only skiing but also dining, entertainment, training, and wellness services.
Statistics show that since 2023, these venues have served over 380,000 visitors, generating nearly 29 million yuan ($3.96 million) in revenue. The city now hosts 68 ice and snow-related enterprises, underpinning the rapid growth of its ice and snow economy.
In 2025, Jinan will develop unique products by integrating ice and snow sports with tourism, education, and culture to further boost the development of the ice and snow industry.
