Qingdao Yacht clinched another opportunity to mount the rostrum in a thrilling trans-Pacific race from the home port Qingdao to Seattle, reaching the emerald shores of the city on the morning of April 24th amidst a flurry of excitement and celebration.

After 26 days at sea, the team’s bold decision to follow the most southerly course paid dividends, as they realized a commendable second place in Race 10 of the Clipper Round the World Race. The crew’s courage to take a risk was key to Qingdao’s success, according to Skipper Philip Quinn, who emphasized the critical moment when opportunity knocked.

After navigating south of Japan, we found ourselves in a somewhat precarious situation, caught in a wind tunnel that caused us to fall slightly behind the main fleet. The captain made the bold decision to take the most southerly route, breaking away from the others. It was a risky move; any mistake would have been irreversible, as there would be no way to catch up. However, we are delighted that the tactic paid off, allowing us to successfully surge ahead and maintain a strong position until the finish.

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is a biennial sailing race that takes paying amateur crews on one or more legs of a circumnavigation of the globe. The race was conceived in 1995 by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and has been held every two years since 1996.
